SKYLAR LU

Soprano · Where Music Meets the Mind

Skylar Lu is a soprano from Long Island, New York, and a student in Manhattan School of Music's Pre-College program. She has won first place in 2025 OCAC’s Overseas Compatriot School Students and Overseas Compatriot Students Singing Competition, an international vocal competition that drew singers from more than a dozen countries. She has also received the Roger Rees Awards Fresh Face Honor of Excellence and was selected for the 2026 New York State School Music Association’s All-State Treble Chorus. She was honored to be an invited singer at the National Day celebration hosted by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York (TECO-NY).

Equally at home in classical repertoire and musical theatre, Skylar believes music is at its best when it reaches someone. She has sung for patients in clinical and assisted-living settings, where she has seen a familiar melody help someone with Parkinson's find the rhythm of movement again.

Some of her favorite audiences are the youngest. She is a teaching assistant for five-year-olds at the Sunday Chinese school she has attended since she was four. She also teaches singing to children at summer camp.

At Great Neck South High School, Skylar serves on the board of Theater South and is a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and the International Thespian Society. She hopes to build a life where music and the mind meet, exploring how song shapes memory, movement and connection.
