Skylar Lu is a soprano from Long Island, New York, whose voice has carried her from her school's stage to international competition. A student in Manhattan School of Music's Pre-College program, she is a first-place winner of an international vocal competition spanning more than a dozen countries and a recipient of the Roger Rees Awards Honor of Excellence, and she has been selected for the NYSSMA All-State festival.
Equally at home in classical repertoire and musical theatre, Skylar believes music is at its best when it reaches someone. That conviction runs through everything she does offstage: bringing music into nursing and assisted living facilities, with patients whose movement finds its rhythm again through song, singing with kids in Chinese schools and summer camps, and performing for her grandparents and elderly friends during visits to Taiwan, where Chinese song first connected her to her heritage.
At Great Neck South High School, she serves on the board of Theater South and is a member of Tri-M Music Honor Society and the International Thespian Society. She hopes to build a life at the intersection of music and the mind.
